GOFFSTOWN POLICE TO HOLD SIGN UP FOR ‘AUTISM 911’

GOFFSTOWN POLICE TO HOLD SIGN UP FOR ‘AUTISM 911’

Parents of autistic children are invited to register their children with the police department on February 17, 2010.

In conjunction with Easter Seals of Manchester, the New Hampshire 911 call center, and the Goffstown Fire Department, the Goffstown Police Department is sponsoring a registration session for families affected by autism. The registration process involves taking a photograph and some basic information about the child and the family, which can be available to emergency first responders. This process is designed to help police officers and other first responders know where children afflicted with autism live and where they might wander to in a time of crisis.

This invitation is also extended to families wishing to register household members affected by other mental and physical health issues that may assist emergency first responders. This is the third such event held at police headquarters since 2007.

Children being registered will also be able to check out emergency vehicles and get acquainted with community first responders. Registration will take place at the police department on Wednesday February 17th from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. For more information, please contact Lieutenant Robert Browne at 497-4858.

Weather Alert

December 30, 2009

There is a significant winter storm predicted for this weekend. According to the NWS in Gray, Me. – “this is a very unusual event . . . we have not seen one like this in 30 years.” This will be an event that is expected to bring significant snow and wind for the entire state. Gusts of wind may be up to 50 mph.

The main storm will be moving in Saturday afternoon and possibly last until Tuesday, with the storm stalling off the coast. The weather models are still somewhat confusing so actual amounts of snowfall (mostly dry snow) are difficult to predict and range anywhere from 6-14” to possible 20-40” further north.

All residents are encouraged to make contingency plans and be prepared to shelter in place if necessary. Recommendations are to have an adequate amount of water, food and heat. Flashlights and batteries are also suggested. If you any questions concerning weather updates stay tuned to local media outlets.

It is expected that once a better prediction is obtained that there will be a winter parking ban put into effect.
Should you require assistance during the storm please contact Goffstown Police/ Fire dispatch at 497-4858.
